First Case of Circulatory Assist Pump Catheters in Japan (IMPELLA)

In early October 2017, at Osaka University, a patient with acute heart failure was treated using a circulatory assist pump catheter (IMPELLA), which was the first case in Japan.

The patient (male, 50s) was under medical treatment for dilated cardiomyopathy. As he showed the exacerbation of pharmacological treatment-resistant acute heart failure, he was treated using IMPELLA. The treatment was successful.
